Valencia Expat Facebook Groups: Which Ones Are Worth Joining?

Moving to Valencia is exciting—but also filled with questions. From "Where do I find a good pediatrician?" to "How do I register for empadronamiento?" the fastest way to get answers is often through expat Facebook groups. But with so many out there, which ones are actually helpful—and which might just flood your notifications with clutter?

The Groups That Actually Help

1. Valencia Expats

Best for: Immediate questions, quick crowdsourcing, and housing leads.

This is the biggest and busiest group. If you want fast feedback—like “what SIM card is best?” or “can I buy canned pumpkin in November?”—this is your group. It’s a little chaotic, but incredibly responsive. Ideal when you first arrive or if you’re still planning from abroad.

2. Expats Valencia

Best for: Local events, meetups, and building your social calendar.

This group feels more personal. Members share events, hike invites, craft markets, language exchanges—you’ll find your people here. It’s great once you’re settled and want to connect beyond the logistics.

3. Expats Living and Working in Valencia

Best for: Digital nomads, remote workers, and career-focused expats.

This group tends to focus more on bureaucracy, NIE renewals, tax guidance, and freelance tips. If you’re self-employed or navigating Spanish red tape, you’ll find good solidarity (and venting) here.

4. Expat Family in Valencia, Spain

Best for: Parents, especially with school-aged kids.

Warm, focused, and friendly. You’ll find real insight on school registration, bilingual schooling, birthday party venues, pediatricians, and those classic questions like “Does anyone know a babysitter who speaks English?” We practically lived in this group the first few months.

5. Foreigners in Valencia

Best for: Cultural insights, multilingual support, and a diverse perspective.

This group isn’t just for English speakers—which makes it especially useful if you’re hoping to build a more integrated life here. Expect posts in Spanish, Italian, and beyond. It’s a good blend of expats and long-time immigrants.

Which Group Is Best for Your Situation?

Expats Living & Working Visas, freelancing, NIE & banking questions If working remotely or as autonomo
Expat Family in Valencia Schools, kid activities, mom questions Families with children
Foreigners in Valencia Integrated living, multicultural mix For long-term expat life and local flavor

Smart Tips for Facebook Group Success

  • Use the search bar first. “Best neighborhood for families” has probably been asked 37 times this month.

  • Be specific with your questions. Include ages of your kids, budget range, or area of interest.

  • Don’t ask for legal advice. You’ll get 12 different opinions. Call a gestor or lawyer instead.

  • Be kind. People are trying their best. The tone you bring in shapes the tone of the replies.

Amanda’s Take

When we first moved here, I joined all the groups. It was overwhelming at first—until I learned how to filter. Valencia Expats helped us find a rental. Expat Family gave us our first pediatrician rec. Expats Valencia led us to our first paella party. These groups didn’t just give us answers—they gave us a foothold.

If you're staring at a long to-do list or just craving community, these digital spaces can make Valencia feel a whole lot smaller—in the best way.
